McMillen with the Sweet Swing at State

The girls golf team teed it up in their state tournament last Monday in Dodge City at Mariah Hills. McMillen lead the team with a 83, bettering her score from last year by 14 shots which put her in a tie for ninth place individually, where she won a sudden death playoff against two past state champions, Topeka Washburn Rural’s roster, Megan Lucas and Adyson Crough. Alyssa McMillen was pleased with her play.

And the Exit was Open

At Garden City High School, a student trying to get home after school generally has to fight incompetent drivers and bumper to bumper traffic just to get out of the circle. On Oct. 12, the Pioneer exit was opened and suddenly, getting home was a lot easier. The pioneer exit out of the high school should always be open to students after school.

Buffs Volleyball Hits the Road to State

The Lady Buffs volleyball team is killing the competition this season with a WAC championship, and a Sub-State championship which leads them to the 6A state tournament for the third year in the row. The girls are currently 27-8. 

Buffs Tennis Makes a Racket of WAC

The Lady Buffs tennis team made a racket at the WAC tournament and state. Alexis Powell and Madison bellows, both seniors, play doubles together. Powell and Bellows placed first in the WAC tournament and fourth in regional sending them to state.

Boo At The Zoo

 Halloween is still days away, but that doesn’t matter to the Friends of Lee Richardson Zoo. They hosted their annual Boo at the Zoo fundraiser last Saturday, Oct. 21. from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Hundreds of kids dawned their costume ten days early and lined up with their parents to attend. Dressed as everything from princesses to super heroes, they journeyed through the zoo, where local groups set up booths to hand out candy and raise awareness for their organizations.

Night at the Lab

Garden City High School hosted the fourth annual Southwest Regional “Night at the Lab” competition on Thursday, October 19. Beginning at 5:00 pm, groups of talented students from Garden City and the surrounding area presented medical research projects to a group of community volunteers.

Stuck Plans

This year, GCHS Student Council has put together many events that have been a huge hit. This school year, StuCo has put together the homecoming parade and assembly, powderpuff, a yoga session, and has worked with Buffalo Coffee Shop to make burritos and pancakes to raise money.
