Practices for the Lady Buffs basketball team have officially started, initiating their season.

“Practice has been going really good, there is a lot of energy and we’re working hard on playing together as one team with all the upcoming freshmen,” Kensi Peitz, senior said. “This is important being a fairly new team we want to get everyone involved.”

A new season brings more competition, this means more intense practices and hard work from the Lady Buffs.

“Practices are going great,” Monica Quintanar, junior said. “We have been running a lot to get in better shape which is good because we will be pressing a lot this year and expecting more to come of the season. I’m excited to see what this team can do as our season continues.”

“Practices have been going really well,” Beth Guymon, senior said. “We started out just developing our fundamental skills and making them stronger. Now we are going more in depth and focusing on plays and other important things that will be necessary going into our tournament in Texas. We have been conditioning more, just going up and down the court faster.”

Being one of only three seniors on the team this year, along with Beth Guymon and Josie Calonetti, Peitz is excited for this season to begin.

“It’s both exciting a bitter sweet going into my senior season. I’m excited for what’s to come and I think we will do well. Being one of the few seniors, I feel I have to be more energetic and step up as a leader for the underclassmen,” Peitz, said.

For these girls the new season has been anxiously awaited.

“Not only am I excited to get back on the court and playing basketball, but I’m excited to be around the atmosphere again,” Guymon, said. “Being around everyone and competing against yourself to be better is such a great feeling. Getting to play for our coaches with the team we have especially, is my favorite part of this new season.”

Having fun and enjoying the season is important to being a successful team. It takes everyone’s effort to be successful.

“We want this season to be memorable and enjoyable for every player,” Peitz said. “We want to be close as a team so we can be more successful.”
