The Lady Buffs would be put to the test as they took on the Great Bend Lady Panthers in a homecoming game last Friday. At the end of the first quarter the game looked like it would be a close one, but the girls were ready for the Panthers. They stopped them at only 10 points in the first half of play.

“Overall, we were really pleased with how the team played on Friday night,” Matthew Pfeifer, head coach, said. “We really executed our game plan defensively and it showed by holding them to 10 points in the first half.”

By the end of the half the team was up 23-10. To start the second half the team was looking to capitalize on their lead and put the game away, but struggled early on.

“The main thing we struggled with was extending our lead in the third and fourth quarters and handling their press,” Pfeifer said. “Their press really got to us and led to a few unnecessary turnovers.”

Despite the struggles in the second half, the team played well and with the help of the student section closed out strong.

“The student section was lit,” Kaylee Bridges, health sophomore, said. “The students were excited to be there as they cheered on the team. They had an American flag there and went all out for the theme.”

In the end, the Lady Buffs performed and come out with a 48-38 win against the Lady Panthers.

“I think the girls team played well during their games,” Bridges said. “They looked like they had fun playing and showed  alot of teamwork and ball control.”

The girls will be back in action Tuesday, Feb. 13 as they take on their rival, the Dodge City Red Demons.

Scores were not available as of print.
