The boys Buffalo swim team made their final splash in the lanes last Thursday on Feb. 8th, 2018. They competed in Great Bend, Kan. Trey Arwine raced the 200 free 500 free, and 4×1.
“This season was a really good season overall.” Trey Arwine, sophomore, said “Most of the athletes were new swimmers and we all learned a lot of things. Some learned new strokes and others worked on perfecting their stroke. It was very exciting watching everyone race and get better each meet and every practice.”
The Buffalos placed third overall at the Western Athletic Conference. The Buffalos swim team had many Western Athletic Conference champions including Aaron Schafer. He swam the 100 yard freestyle in 55 seconds, the 100 yard breaststroke in one minute and 10 seconds and the 50 freestyle in 25 seconds.
“My 100 freestyle race felt good.” Schafer said. “I was racing in the lane next to me, unfortunately I ended up losing two in two seconds. I got third in that race. My 100 yard breaststroke also felt really good and I won first in that race and also set a Western Athletic Conference record.”
The Buffalo swim team had a medley relay and that received a one minute and 57 seconds. For it being the inaugural year for this team. The athletes felt they did well.
“I am really glad I swam this year” Avey Arana, sophomore, said. “I didn’t expect it to be this fun or expect to learn this much. I give swimmers more credit and now know that it is hard work. I feel like it will help me become a better all around athlete.”
The Western Athletic Conference wrapped up the boys season. Many of them claim that they will continue swimming and training for the next season to come.
