Winter homecoming has now passed, so lets review what all went down the past week. Homecoming week began with a ‘buff stuff’ spirit day, Tuesday was mismatched day. Monday student council held a dodgeball tournament. On Wednesday there was a morning assembly to announce the winter homecoming royalty.

Royalty consisted of freshman candidates Kyler Bennet and Hannah Kipp, sophomore candidates were Refugio Chairez who escorted Emma Dirks and Kyle Doll who was paired with Remi Vargas. The junior class was represented by Kaleb LaPointe, Nathaniel Hubbard and Dade Horney, the girl candidates for the junior class were Raegan Nordby, Ryleigh Whitehurst, and Kathryn Chandler. Seniors were represented by Beth Guymon who was escorted by Lance Allred, Grace Schmidt escorted by Jhamel Transfiguracion, Kylee Hipp escorted by Kameron Wildeman, and Reigan Crawford who was escorted by Javier Cervantes.

“I really enjoyed being apart of the homecoming court. It was a great experience for senior year, and it wasn’t a huge time commitment which made it better,” Javier Cervantes, arts and communication senior, said.

The theme for Wednesday was meme day which was well participated in according to fifth hour student council advisor Kay Daugaard.

“Meme day was something new. Lots of other schools are doing that theme, and I thought we had some pretty creative participation,” Daugaard said. “Of course, country western day (Thursday’s theme) and America day (Friday’s theme) probably had the most participants overall.”

Friday was a day full of excitement, the school day ended with a pep assembly where the administrators played elimination. Right after school until the start of the girls game student council hosted a fun fair for students and the community.

“The people who did participate seemed to really enjoy the doughnut challenge and the bounce house,” Daugaard said.

At the basketball game the buffaloes took on the Great Bend Panthers, both the girls and the boys teams defeated the panthers. At halftime the of the boys game the winter homecoming royalty was announced. Jhamel Transfiguracion took home the crown as the king candidate while Beth Guymon was crowned as the queen candidate.

“I didn’t expect to win homecoming queen because I went up against such great candidates, but when I did win it meant the world to me,” Beth Guymon, health and trade academy senior, said. “I love all the students and staff here at Garden City High School and it will sure be hard to leave next year #OnceABuffAlwaysABuff.”

The Garden City High School student council would like to thank the staff and students of the high school, as well as the community for making the 2018 winter homecoming one to remember.
