Buffs take win over Redskins

The Buffs played the Liberal Redskins last Tuesday at Liberal. The Buffs came home with a win, beating the Redskins 50-46. Carlos Acosta played well for the Buffs with 17 points off 6-of-8 field goals and 2-of-2 free throws, the Buffs finished hitting 17 of 29.

“We didn’t play e best but we still got the job done. I played pretty well and I was able to score quite a few points.” Said sophomore Carlos Acosta.

The Buffs finished the WAC race at 6-2 in sole possession of second place behind Hays, the only two losses the Buffs suffered in league play. Kyler Lamb also joined Carlos Acosta in double figures, scoring 10 with 3 of 6 shooting.

“We are about the hit the most important part of the season so we need to start playing better. Our offense is playing pretty good right now, but we need to start playing better ” Said junior Kyler Lamb.

Demarcus Elliot got a game high of rebounds against the Redskins, getting 8 rebounds.

“I had a good game and I got a lot of rebounds, I’m ready to see what we can do in the post season, I have a feeling that we are going to do good this year. We need to start communicating better on the court.” Said Demarcus Elliot. Cameron Riley was the leading scorer for the Redskins scoring 11. After Saturday the the boys basketball team found out where they would open Class 6A substate this week. The Buffaloes’ boys team (12-8) earned the No. 5 overall seed and will host Haysville Campus (8-12) at 6 p.m. Wednesday at The Garden. A victory for the Buffs would put them against the winner of Derby (No. 4 seed)and Junction City (No. 13 seed) on Saturday. That game will be played on the home court of the higher seeded team. Winners of both boys and girls sub-state titles will advance to the Class 6A state tournament on March 7 to 10 at Koch Arena in Wichita. The Buffs’ boys qualified a year ago, but lost to top-seeded Blue Valley Northwest in the opening round of the state. Northwest went on to capture the state championship.
