Garden City High School Takes Home 10 Jester Awards for “In the Heights”

 

 17th Annual Jester Awards were held Sunday, May 6 at Century II in Wichita

 

Garden City High School Theatre department were recipients of ten Jester Awards this weekend. GCHS was nominated for 18 Jester Awards for the fall musical In the Heights. In the Heights’ Music and Lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda and Book by Quiara Alegria Hudes was performed on November 10th and 11th at 7 pm, and November 11th and 12th at 2:30 pm in the Garden City High School Auditorium. This year, 102 judges viewed 127 performances of 41 productions, involving more than 2800 students and 41 schools across the state of Kansas. The program began in Wichita, but now extends as far as Liberal, Hays, Salina, and Pittsburg, in addition to the greater Wichita area. The Jester’s program honors schools in 25 categories, and GCHS theatre students were honored to kick off the show as the first school performance following a medley featuring GCHS students: Kimberly Loya, Colten May, and Johb Silva.

  • Direction of Show- Barbara Hilt
  • Leading Actor- Johb Silva, sophomore, as Usnavi
  • Supporting Actress-Elena Lopez, senior, as  Abuela Claudia
  • Stage Crew
  • Scenic Design- Barbara Hilt, Alice Hilt, & Kaci Bunch
  • Costume Design- Robyn Hilt
  • Lighting Design- Barbara Hilt, Alice Hilt
  • Sound Design- Barbara Hilt, Lyle Sobba, Francisco Becerril
  • Lobby Display- Alice Hilt & Delaney DeSpain
