The volleyball team is set for another post season run. The Lady Buffs started their season against Newton and South Central before playing Great Bend and Liberal.

“I think our team is definitely more consistent offensively,” Reagan Karlin, trade and health junior, said “We still need to make smarter choices in the front row and be able to put the ball down when the other team is picking everything up. I think we have a solid defense, but like most teams, we could always use some improvement. We have good days and bad days defensively.”

For most of the team members doing well in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) and making it to state are their goals for the season.

“My hopes for the season are to win WAC for the eighth time and also to beat the higher level teams and make it to the second day of state,” Karlin, said.

The teams back row and hitters helped the team comeback and win the game against Liberal in three sets.

“One of our strengths is our back row and our hitters do a good about putting the ball down right away,” Kelli Richter, trade and health junior, said. “A weakness is being so young and not having the experience we need at some times.”

The lady buffs will continues their season on the 15 of September at Maize and then they will go to a Tournament in Topeka on the 25 of September before having a tri and quad in Dodge City and Wichita respectively. After that, they will have a home tri that includes Dodge City and Ulysses. Then they will then travel to McPherson for a tournament and after that their post season starts with the WAC tournament on October 18. Sub-State and State will follow and be on October 20 and 27 respectively.

“Our teams strengths are our skills, but we fail to communicate at some points and get our own heads and beat ourself and that’s our weakness,” Taylor Terpstra, senior volleyball player, said.
