Buffalo boys soccer ended their winning streak this week with a couple tough matches against WAC opponents. On Sept. 11 the team dominated offensively and came through with the win at home against Hays Thomas More Prep High School. The junior varsity team kicked off the night with a 3-0 win and the varsity team finished off with a 3-2 win that same day.
“Well, there’s a lot of things we could always improve on as a team for games in the future, some things we should work on as a team are communicating to one another and to put goals away when given the opportunity too,” Alec Keosengphet, junior and varsity defender, said.
The varsity team lost their first game at Liberal on Sept. 13. They had lots of opportunities to score and fell behind in the first half and couldn’t quite catch up in the second half of the game. The varsity team lost the game against the Liberal High School Redskins with a final score of 2-3 and the junior varsity team pulled through and won 1-0.
“We have a lot of opportunities to score but we need to follow through and take the opportunities and get and keep a lead with those opportunities beforehand,” Joaquin Padilla, boys head soccer coach, said
Both the varsity and junior varsity teams dropped the ball at Dodge City against the Dodge City Red Demons. The junior varsity fell short and lost 0-2 along with the second loss of the season for the varsity with a final score of 0-3.
“As a team I believe we control the ball in the middle really great and we create good opportunities for our forward Htoo Htoo. If we keep our shape and improve our team chemistry we will be a very dangerous team for anyone up incoming,” Francisco Becerril, senior and varsity goalkeeper, said.
The team needs to take advantage of opportunities to score in the offensive end and continue to take it one game at a time. So far the varsity team has a record of five wins and two losses and the junior varsity has a record of four wins and two losses.
