College football kicks off

Saturday nights are back and shining bright as the Wildcats, Jayhawks and Broncbusters are off to a good start.

The Kansas State Wildcats started their season against the South Dakota University Coyotes and pulled out their first win of the season with a 15 point fourth quarter to win 24 to 27. The Wildcats then welcomed the number 14 team in the nation Mississippi State Bulldogs where they suffered their first loss of the season, 31 to 10. They finished off their preseason matchups against the University of Texas San Antonio and won 17 to 21. The Wildcats are off to a 2-1 record and they will continue their season this Saturday against the 12th ranked team in the nation West Virginia Mountaineers before coming back to Manhattan to play the University of Texas.

“Kansas state has had a rough start to the season, but I think they can come back and finish the season strong,” Austin Roth, trade and health sophomore, said.

The Broncbusters started their season off against off against Dodge city community college and had a 52 to 24 win. They then traveled to Ellsworth community college and got their second win of the season, 16 to 8. After that they made their way to independence community college and won in a thriller, 28 to 21. They off to a 3-0 record for their season. The Broncbusters are scheduled to play Iowa western community college at Broncbusters stadium at 1 p.m.

“I’m not a very big Independence fan, so I’m pretty happy they beat them,” Kathryn Chandler, arts and communications senior, said.

The Kansas Jayhawks have been the surprise team this year after finishing with only one win last year. They started off their season were they left off last year and lost to Nichols 26 to 23 in the first over time. After that they traveled to Central Michigan a picked up their first win since the first game last year, 31 to 7. The Jayhawks continued their momentum into their next game a beat down Rutger University, 14 to 55. The Jayhawks are off to a 2-1 record for their season and will continue their season as they travel to Baylor University this Saturday, before coming back to Lawrence to play the number 15th team in the nation Oklahoma State Cowboys.

“Kansas has been doing really well so far and I’m excited to watch them the rest of the season,” Destiny Avila, trade and health junior, said.
