Today’s technology is continuously improving and a new app has made riding the bus safer and easier. In Garden city, many kids from pre-kindergarten to their senior year in high school will ride the bus to and from school. Tyler Technologies has created a new app called My Bus Stop. This app allows parents, guardians, and students to track where their specific bus is located. The app shows what time the bus will arrive at their pick up location, all from a smart phone, tablet, or computer. Each student will be issued a scan card to keep track of when kids get on and when they get off to get a more precise location of the child, rather than just the bus. The app provides a map and gives you the ETA (Estimated time of arrival). The app self updates so you always have a exact location of where the bus is. This application is available as a app or website. This app would be extremely helpful if buses have to run mud routes or other routes due to inclement weather.
“I personally think the bus app is great, for the most part.” Jill Wessles said, “it saves me a ton of time on the road, but scheduling has it always been ideal and there have been major glitches. I think when the app is up and running it will be great for parents in both morning and afternoon. It would be super handy to know if the bus is running on time or not. I sure hope it has a feature like ‘find my friends’ where I can track where the bus is. The only thing that could be off putting is the timing.”
This app is free to download and to use and if you have multiple children you may track more than one child at a time. To access which bus you need to be tracking you will need to get a user name and password from the school your child attends. If you have any further questions about the app or their services, you are suggested to contact the transportation department at 620-805-8750 or email them at transportationdistribution@gckschools.com. The transportation Department are available from 7 am to 5 pm each school day.
