New PT Conferences

McKenna Jagels Sugar Beet Staff Reporter Parent teacher conferences have seen major changes this year. Students and parents are used to meeting individually with each teacher to discuss grades and behavior as well as other topics. This year a new idea was in the works throughout the state involving an Individual Plan of Study (IPS).

Modern Show Choir spreads love on Valentine’s

Will Keller Sugar Beet staff reporter Some recognizable traits of Valentine’s Day at Garden City High are students dressed up, carrying bouquets of flowers, plush animals, chocolates and of course, sharply dressed Show Choir member performing singing valentines in classes. Garden City High School Modern Show Choir has performed singing valentines annually as a fund raiser.

Boys swimming finishes season

Bringing home the WAC title and qualifying several swimmers for the state championship swim meet were just a few of the victories this season. After the WAC defeat, celebration consisted of lots of cheering, triumphant splashes, and pushing coaches in the water as well.

Wrestlers bring home brackets

To start off the week the first day was Murica’ Monday, then Tacky Tourist Tuesday, Workout Wednesday, Twin and Triplets Thursday, and Friend Zone Friday.

Basketball throwsback and throwsdown

The Girls Basketball team has a winning record of 11-7 and the boys also have a winning record at 13-5. These teams are entering the postseason as they work towards the Sub State championships.

Debate on keeping Big Pool sparks conflict

Jordan Koerperich  Sugar Beet staff reporter The future of one of Garden City’s most famous historical landmarks is uncertain. When the ‘Big Pool’ first opened on July 18, 1922 a band played as hundreds of people hit the water to inaugurate Garden City’s first summer swim season.

Big prize awaits Buffs’ bowlers at Class 6A regionals

The Garden City Buffaloes girls and boys bowling teams will compete Friday at the Class 6A regional in Hutchinson at The Alley. The top 3 teams in each division will earn berths in the state meet at North Rock Lanes in Wichita on March 1, along with six other individuals whose teams do not advance.

New brewhouse hits Main Street

People in Garden City have been asking for something like this for a long time, and it’s finally been brought to life with the Flat Mountain Brewery, co-owned by Jorge Guzman, Carlos Mantilla, and John Chappel.
