The high school cheer team will be participating once again in the Garden City Cheer and Dance Showcase at Horace Good middle school on February Ninth. This showcase serves as an opportunity for cheer and dance programs from schools in and out of town to compete and display their skills.
At the showcase, they will put a competitive routine together and perform it in front of a judge to receive a rating. It serves as a way to challenge them and see how far they have come.
Alongside the cheering aspect of the showcase, there is also a dancing section. There, dancers can perform solos or take part in larger routines.
The cheer section will have the cheer teams perform their best stunts, jumps and tumbling paired with a short dance.
“This is a great experience for both dancers and cheerleaders,” Megan Allen, cheer junior said. “We put in lots of work and get to cheer on other people from different schools who do the same thing we love, and it’s a great bonding experience that I look forward to each and every year.”
The cheer team has already started a routine, and are currently preparing for the showcase.
“Showcase last year was really fun,” Grace Reagle, cheer junior, said. “We had an exciting, but challenging routine. We started putting the routine together at the beginning of January and it was nice to see how far we had come from then to what the routine at the Showcase looked like.”
“I have attended this event three times (twice in middle school and once freshman year), and this will be my fourth year attending,” Allen said.
The showcase will take place at this Saturday, starting at 8:30 a.m. Among several other schools, our team will perform their routine.
“I’m excited to see how our teams will perform this year,” Reagle said.q “We added a new part of cheer to our showcase this year. One stunt group will perform at a time will perform, showing what they can do. I think I am most excited about that because personally, I haven’t been able to participate in something like that before.”
“I am looking forward to my senior year at competition,” Emma Sanchez, cheer senior, said. “It’s always stressful at first but once when we perform it’s always really fun.”
