Sosa, Fisher lead Buffs’ XC teams at Rim Rock; Boys soccer slips past Hays

Freshman Jocelyn Sosa and senior Ethan Fisher each had top 25 finishes in the prestigious Rim Rock Classic Saturday, Sept. 28, at Lawrence. Sosa clocked a 20:13.0 for the 5-kilometer race to place 12th overall out of 278 runners to help the Lady Buffs to a 23rd place team standing in a field of 38 teams. Fisher, meanwhile, placed 22nd in the boys Crimson division, running a 5-K time of 16:55.2 to help the Buffs' boys to a seventh-place team finish 347 points to end up among the top four Kansas schools in that division.

Lady Buffs’ golfers win own Invite; repeat WAC title

The Garden City High School Lady Buffs, with senior Alyssa McMillen's 2-over-par 74 score, won their own invitational on Thursday, Sept. 26, at Buffalo Dunes Golf Course. McMillen, who placed second overall to Stanton County's state champion Rylie Cook's 71, still captured the top spot in the Western Athletic Conference portion of the tournament, her fourth in a row as was the team's title. The Lady Buffs shot a team total of 360, with Grace Yi placing fifth with a 90 and Ryann Warren was seventh with a 94. Rian Linenberger and Emma Kells each shot 102 with one of those scores counting toward the team total. Allie Sandoval rounded out the individuals for coach Trent Specht with a 114.

Lady Buffs tennis 2nd at Campus Invite

Across the board, the Garden City Lady Buffs tennis team took second-place in each of the four divisions Monday at the Haysville-Campus Invitational. Thus, the Lady Buffs took second in the team race with 12 points while host Campus, which took 3 of 4 matches from Garden, captured the team title with 16 points. Wichita Northwest was third with 7, Dodge City fourth with 5 and Wichita South fifth with 5 points in the round-robin event.

GCHS Premieres ‘Miss You Like Hell’ – School Edition

Now in her eighth year as Head Director of the Garden City High School drama department, Barbara Hilt has overseen more than 30 productions. The variety of plays and musicals would be difficult to describe, but earlier this year, Hilt and eventually the students who are in the productions, had the rare opportunity to review a musical that had never been performed at a high school in the United States.

There’s no place like home for Mattie Silva

In the 1939 classic movie, “The Wizard of Oz,” Dorothy discovers a way back home to Kansas after being whisked away in a tornado along with her little dog, Toto. Mattie Silva can certainly understand the feelings of finding home, that being Garden City and Garden City High School, where she graduated in 2012, the last class to walk down the graduation ailes at the old high school on Main Street. Today, Silva can be found in the afternoons and evenings at athletic events in which Garden City High School Buffaloes teams compete. Buffs looking for elusive first win

The Garden City Buffaloes find themselves in a familiar spot entering Friday’s game vs. the Hutchinson Salthawks. A year ago, the Buffs were 0-2 heading into a game at 0-2 Hutchinson, and lost a back-and-forth heartbreaker, 28-24. This year, both teams are again 0-2, except this time Hutchinson is coming to Buffalo Stadium for Homecoming at 7 p.m. Friday.
