WICHITA — The Garden City High School Buffaloes’ boys soccer team rebounded from an opening-round loss to capture a 4-3 victory Wednesday (Sept. 4) over Wichita Northwest in the consolation bracket of the Wichita South Titan Classic.
The victory evened the Buffs’ early record at 1-1 and they will now take on Western Athletic Conference rival Hays High at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 7, for the fifth-place consolation trophy.
Hassan Ismail scored the tying and then the eventual game-winning goals in the final 12 minutes to lift the Buffs to the one-goal triumph. His twin brother, Hussein, added a pair of assists to the Buffs’ offense.
Christian Hernandez scored the Buffs’ first goal after getting a corner-kick assist from Hussein Ismail early in the first half. Omar Acevedo recorded the Buffs’ second goal on a penalty kick in the 63rd minute of the second half.
The Buffs’ out-shot the Grizzlies 9-5.
