Boys basketball wins Jam opener; boys, girls wrestlers sweep Liberal in WAC
On Thursday, Jan. 23, the Garden City High School boys basketball team won its opening round game of the Valley Center January Jam for the second year in a row. On the same evening, the Buffaloes girls and boys wrestling teams swept past Liberal in Western Athletic Conference dual action. The Lady Buffs won 24-20 while the boys captured a 44-16 match win.
Lady Buffs’ Leeper signs bowling letter with Barton Community College
When she arrived at Garden City High School for her freshman year, Angelina Leeper had little idea of what her bowling career would look like. In her wildest dreams, it would have been difficult to imagine that there would be one Class 6A state championship and a pair of runner-up finishes in her freshman, sophomore and junior seasons. Now a senior, and one of the leaders of the Lady Buffs, Leeper made the next step of her career -- both bowling and academic-wise -- a reality when she signed an NJCAA National Letter-of-Intent to attend Barton Community College in Great Bend next fall.
Lady Buffs’ bowlers dominate Great Bend; boys fall to Panthers
Tuesday's anticipated showdown with the Great Bend Panthers bowling teams was every bit as advertised. The Lady Buffs were dominant against the Lady Panthers, sweeping 9 of the 11 points in the WAC race, while also earning the second and third highest 3-game series medals behind the performance of Emilee Giger (557) and Angelina Leeper (556). On the flip side, the Buffs' boys struggled on their home lanes at Hard Rock, winning just 2 of the 11 points available against the Panthers.
Boys swimming nabs 5th title; Girls basketball tops Ulysses
For the fifth time in six meets, the Garden City High School boys swimming team brought home the first-place trophy, this time on Tuesday, Jan. 21, at the Hays Invitational. It was a big and impressive victory for the Buffaloes, rolling up 569 points while winning 9 of the 11 events. Junction City was a distant second with 387 points while WAC opponents Dodge City (371), Hays (334) and Liberal (204) rounded out the team scoring.
