WRESTLING

Garden City High School’s boys wrestling team, which was ranked No. 2 in Class 6A by the Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association, had to face the No. 4-ranked Class 5A Great Bend Panthers Thursday night in a home Western Athletic Conference dual with a depleted roster.

The Buffs were without starters Diago Hernandez (132), Jacob Holt (138) and Matt Smith (220), all missing due to injuries, according to GCHS coaches. They also did not have anybody slotted into the 285-pound division.

As a result, the Buffs came up on the short side of a 46-33 dual setback to the Panthers. It left the Buffs with a 1-2 record in the WAC.
