Junior Serrano grabs 5th place medal at inaugural girls state wrestling tourney

Garden City High School junior Anjelina Serrano placed fifth on Thursday at the Inaugural Kansas State High School Girls' Wrestling Championship in Salina, held at Tony's Pizza Events Center. Serrano, who had placed fourth a year ago in the unofficial state tournament, posted a 2-2 record in the one-day competition and finished her season with a 34-8 won-loss record.

Two more Lady Buffs sign college volleyball letters-of-intent

In the aftermath of one of the best seasons in Garden City High School volleyball history, coach Trista Bailey has watched her veteran seniors make decisions on furthering their careers at the collegiate level. First, it was Reagan Karlin, who inked an NCAA letter to attend Division I powerhouse Creighton University in Omaha in mid-November. Now, two of her teammates -- Ashlyn Swan and Alli Meng -- have decided on their playing future at the community college level by signing NJCAA letters on Wednesday in the Media Room at GCHS.

Buffs’ wrestlers look for high finish at 6A state on weekend

It’s been a bit of a roller-coaster season for the Garden City Buffaloes’ boys wrestling team, but they will have their final opportunity to salvage some individual accomplishments and a high team finish when they open the Class 6A State Wrestling Championship on Friday, Feb. 28, at Hartman Arena in Park City.

Boys, girls basketball teams split with Liberal; finish regular season at 10-10

The 2019-20 regular season came to an end Tuesday night, Feb. 25, with Senior Night at The Garden as the Buffaloes boys and girls basketball teams made their final appearance against Liberal in a Western Athletic Conference matchup.

Buffs’ bowlers qualify for 6A state with regional runner-up finishes

After claiming Western Athletic Conference titles for both teams, the Garden City Buffaloes girls and boys bowling teams set their sights on their next goal on Monday, Feb. 24. That was the Class 6A regional tournament in Liberal on Monday, Feb. 24, and both teams came home with runner-up finishes to qualify for the state tournament, which will be contested at North Rock Lanes in Wichita on March 5.

Six Lady Buffs ready for first Girls State Wrestling Championship

It will be a first experience for six Garden City High School girls wrestlers when they head to Salina for the 2020 Kansas All-Class Girls State Wrestling Championship. The event begins its inaugural year at Tony’s Pizza Events Center on Thursday, Feb. 27, when all classes will be represented in the first ever girls tourney sponsored by the Kansas State High School Activities Association.
