Tuesday, Feb. 11, provided 3 Buffs' athletic teams an opportunity to compete, all on the road. The basketball teams dropped both girls and boys games to Hugoton, while the GCHS bowling teams split their matches at Great Bend.

Buffs’ “Fuge”Chairez gets official Shrine Bowl football game invitation

Senior Refugio (Fuge) Chairez on Friday, Feb. 7, received his official invitation to participate in the 2020 Kansas Shrine Bowl football game. The 36th edition of the Shrine Bowl, which pits the best graduated seniors from the West and East Kansas high schools, will be played July 18, 2020, at Yager Stadium at Moore Bowl in Topeka. Kickoff will be at 7 p.m.

Buffs’ boys basketball get key WAC win over Demons; Lady Buffs dropped by Dodge

The Garden City High School basketball teams returned to the court Tuesday night in Dodge City for Western Athletic Conference action against rival Dodge City. The Buffaloes’ boys came away with a 57-42 victory for their first WAC win of the season while the Lady Buffs fell, 52-38, to the Lady Demons.

It’s been an ‘All in the Family’ affair for Finch’s at Rocky Welton Invitational

In 2010, when the Welton was still being held at the original Garden at the Main Street GCHS high school, Paul and Linda volunteered to help with the overall organization of the tournament. “I was always running kids tournaments and then had been helping at the Rocky Welton,” Paul said. “I’d find new (software) programs to try and streamline the brackets and it has just evolved a lot through the years.”

Buffs’ swimmers qualify more for state; bowling, wrestling, girls basketball all in weekend action
