BUFFS ROUNDUP: Friday, March 20, 2020
Four GCHS basketball players – two boys and two girls – were recognized for their efforts by being named to the All-WAC teams recently.
BASKETBALL
Senior guard Azavier Williams was named to the 2019-20 Western Athletic Conference first team by a recent vote of the five league coaches.
Williams, a 6-1 guard, helped lead the youthful Buffs to an overall season record of 10 wins and 11 losses, including a 3-5 record in the WAC. Four of those losses came against WAC co-champions Great Bend and Hays. The Buffs finished in third place, ahead of Liberal and Dodge City.
Sophomore Tae Rosales was chosen to the all-WAC second team as the only other representative for coach Jacy Holloway’s squad.
On the girls side, junior Keyhana Turner and freshman Amaya Gallegos were chosen to the all-WAC second team. The Lady Buffs of coach Matt Pfeifer finished with a 4-4 WAC mark for third place behind unbeaten Liberal and Dodge City, and ahead of Hays and Great Bend. The Lady Buffs were 10-11 overall.
Both teams played most underclassmen during the recently completed season, and the prospects are bright for the 2020-21 seasons.
