LADY BUFFS GOLF: Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2020
Garden City High School’s girls golf team played in its third tournament this season on Monday, Sept. 14, at Willow Tree Golf Course in Liberal.
The Western Athletic Conference tournament saw the Lady Buffs struggle to their lowest finish of the season, placing fourth of the five league schools.
“We just had a bad day,” said head coach Trent Specht. “We know the girls can play better and we’ve got a lot of work to do to improve.”
The Lady Buffs shot a 9-hole (4-player score) of 204 to finish well back of Hays’ 182 while Dodge City was second at 189 and Great Bend third at 199. Liberal was fifth at 222.
Sophomore Ryan Warren was the Buffs’ low scorer with a 48, which tied her for fifth place individually. Freshman Jerika Lopez tied for 11th with a 50; freshman Emma Ortiz tied for 17th at 52; junior Allie Sandoval and senior Rian Linenberger tied for 20th at 54; and junior Hannah Plummer was 27th at 61.
The Lady Buffs will be idle until Sept. 24 when they host the Garden City Invitational at Buffalo Dunes Golf Course.
