Buffs’ soccer blanked by Demons in rivalry WAC match

BOYS SOCCER: Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2020

The road to Dodge City for the Garden City Buffaloes boys soccer team didn’t fare quite as well as the Friday road for the Buffs’ football team as the Dodge City Red Demons blanked the Buffs, 2-0, Tuesday night at DC’s Memorial Stadium.

The Buffs’ offense was stymied at times by the Demons’ defense, limiting them to just 8 shots and 2 corner kicks. Dodge, meanwhile, recorded 12 shots and had 2 corner kicks.

Tuesday’s loss left the Buffs at 1-2 in the WAC and 4-2 overall. They will play host Thursday, Sept. 24 to the Hays High Indians in another WAC match-up. The pitch for the varsity will start at approximately 6:30 p.m. following the JV match at 5 o’clock at Buffalo Stadium.

Dodge City took a 1-0 lead into halftime on Irwin Macias’ goal and then iced the game in the second half on a goal by Alan Lopez.

“All things aside, we had them where we could have scored,” head coach Jose Vital said. “We won possession of the ball in the air about 60 percent of the time. Two mistakes cost us the game. At home, we are going to try and switch it up on them.”
