BOYS SOCCER: Monday, Sept. 28, 2020
After a tough road loss on Tuesday, Sept. 22, the Garden City Buffaloes boys soccer team returned to the friendly confines of Buffalo Stadium and made the home pitch work to its advantage with a 4-1 victory over Hays High on Thursday, Sept. 24.
The triumph improved the Buffs’ record to 5-3 overall and evened at 2-2 in the Western Athletic Conference. They have two big WAC matches this week, hosting Great Bend on Tuesday, Sept. 29, and then Dodge City on Thursday, Oct. 1. Both matches’ varsity will begin at approximately 6:30 p.m.
The Buffs had a strong start to the match, getting their first goal in the opening minute by junior Roger Benitez. Freshman Victor Adame made it 2-0 in the 15th minute when his shot from 20 yards out found the back of the net. Junior Leopoldo Hernandez made it 3-0 when he booted a shot into the net in the 30th minute.
Hays got its lone goal in the 58th minute and the Buffs’ final goal came in the 65th minute by senior Rodrigo Oropeza on a free kick.
Garden City finished the match with 14 shots while Hays managed 7. The Buffs’ goalkeeper, Daniel Zamaripa had 6 saves.
