Buffs’ boys soccer suffers another tough WAC loss

Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2020

It seems as though every Western Athletic Conference boys soccer match turns into a hotly-contested dogfight.

Rarely do teams win easily and Tuesday, Oct. 6, was no exception again for the Garden City Buffaloes.

The Buffs could not take advantage of 13 shots on goal in the first half before yielding a goal to Liberal’s Alfredo Lopez in the 66th minute of the second half, falling by that 1-0 decision in the team’s next-to-last WAC match.

Tuesday’s setback dropped the Buffs’ season record to 5-5 and 3-4 in the WAC. They will travel to Great Bend on Thursday, Oct. 8, in their final WAC game of the campaign. They are scheduled to face Wichita Trinity and Wichita-Kapaun next week with Trinity being on the road and Kapaun’s location yet to be determined.

The Buffs had several golden opportunities to score, but Liberal goalkeeper Samuel Hernandez made numerous brilliant saves, recording 14 for the game. The Buffs finished with a 17-0 advantage on shots.

Garden City   0   0   —   0

Second Half

LIB: Alfredo Lopez, unassisted goal, 66th minute (14:48 remaining)
