The Western Athletic Confernece is within striking distance. The Garden City High School bowling team started this week with a match against Great Bend and finished it with a match against Dodge City.

“Western Athletic Conference for us gives us that competition that is useful for us, so when we get to Wichita. We are ready to face the larger scale schools, so leading the Western Athletic Conference is just cool, knowing that we are capable of great things,” Karly Larson, trade sophmore, said.

The women’s team won against Great Bend by a score of 9-2 and they followed that up with another 9-2 score as they demolished Dodge City. The girls were lead by Karly Larson and Faith Whited.

“On Thursday we did really good, we got nine out of 11 WAC points. We got nine because we lost two of the three baker games, which is ok but we really would have liked to sweep Dodge,” Alexis Leon, trade and health, said. “We had three girls that medaled. Karly Larson got first with an amazing 700 series and then Faith Whited got second and Angelina Leeper got third. So overall we had an amazing day of bowling and will be ready to kick butt at our WAC tournament in Great Bend Thursday.”

The Men’s bowling team fell to Great Bend 7-4. But they rebounded and swept Dodge City 11-0. They were lead by Junior Brayden Bicket.

“The guys did very good, we bowled as a team and we worked together to accomplish a big goal that we set for ourselves,” Brayden Bicket, arts and communications junior, said.

The Buffaloes will be back in action in the Western Athletic Conference tournament in Great Bend on Thursday.
