After throwing their best the bowling team came up a little short of another state title. The Garden City High School girl’s bowling team took second at the state tournament, while the boys team sent two individuals.
The girl’s team placed second overall, lead by sophomore Karly Larson. Larson shot a 542 series with scores of 161, 193 and 188. She placed seventh individually. Faith Whited was the only other bowling to break the top 20, shooting a 512 series with scores of 170, 173 and 169. Ryleigh Whitehurst rolled a 489 series with scores of 189, 149, 151 and Angelina Leeper rolled a 485 series with scores of 189, 146 and 150. Alexis Leon bowled a series of 462 with scores of 139, 151 and 172. Emilee Giger rolled a 438 series with scores of 159, 145 and 134.
“I think overall we did pretty good,” Alexis Leon, health academy junior, said. “The lane conditions were pretty difficult so we just had to adjust even more. Even though we got second I think we did the best we could performance wise. We will just make a strong comeback next year.”
The boys team sent two boys to the state and they were freshman Caiden Orozco and junior Brayden Bicket. Orozco placed 41st with a 471 series. Bicket placed 53rd with a 443 series.
“I’m pretty disappointed about how I bowled. I didn’t adjust well to the lane conditions, but it will only help me next year,” Brayden Bicket, arts and communications junior, said.
In four games of baker format, which is were five bowlers roll two frames each, non-consecutive order, the Buffaloes totaled a score of 719. This was the highest score any girls team shot, but wasn’t enough to take first place.
“I felt that I did pretty decent give the lane conditions as the oil was a sport shot that is typically played in college,” Karly Larson, trade academy sophmore, said. “There was definitely room for improvement, but overall I think my bowling for the day was adequate.”
The Buffs finished their bowling season and will be back in action again next year in hope to win their third title in four years.
“I feel like next season will have a better outcome than this year did,” Bicket, said.
