BOYS SWIMMING

The depth of the Garden City High School boys swim team was evident on Tuesday when coach Brian Watkins took just six junior varsity swimmers to the Hutchinson Invitational, which was a varsity meet for all other competing teams.

The Buffs did score 30 points, but Watkins said the value was in the experience provided to his JV swimmers to be able to compete against varsity swimmers.

“This will help us immensely down the road, and the depth we are developing will make us a better team as the season progresses,” Watkins said.

Highlighting the performances was Alec Erskin, who placed in all of his events, including relays. He took fourth in the 200-yard individual medley (   ), and was fifth in the 100-yard backstroke (   ).

Rex Crofts and Santiago Nunez also placed in the 100-yard breaststroke and the 200-yard freestyle.

The Buffs varsity will be in action Thursday when they host Western Athletic Conference opponents Great Bend and Dodge City. The meet begins at 4 p.m. at the Garden City Family YMCA.
